[HLMainPic] The Boxer Rebellion. Despite this being the 2nd Edition the work is almost unknown & is very rare in any form. This copy lacking one plan, o/w VG in orig. dec. cloth but neatly recased with new endpapers. Perkins (who was only aware of the 1st Edition) states: "The 1st Chinese Regiment was raised in 1898 in the British concessionary territory of Wei-hai-Wei. It was, in fact, often referred to as the Wei-hai-Hei Regt. Its officers, & most SNCOs, were British. The rank & file were recruited in the locality from the Chinese population. This book is believed to be the only available history of the Regt. & it deals solely with the Third China War of 1900 (The Boxer Rebellion). Its total stregth at that time was 14 British officers, 8 British SNCOs, & 363 Chinese NCOs & ORs. It took an active part in the fighting & two DCMs were earned by its members (as described in the text). One of the recipients was a Chinese sergeant, & he was probably the only Chinese national to win such an award. The War Office ordered the disbandment of the Regt. in 1906."
