Ingrams (William Harold Ingrams, 1897-1973, colonial administrator whose career was spent mostly in East Africa & Arabia. He was awarded an OBE, 1933, CMG, 1939. He & his wife were jointly awarded the Lawrence of Arabia Memorial Medal of the Royal Central Asian Society, 1939, for their role in bringing peace to the Hadhramaut, and the Founder's Medal of the Royal Geographical Society, 1940, for their exploration of the region). [HLMainPic] Benuzzi was an officer of the Italian Colonial Service at Addis, & a keen mountaineer: incarcerated by the British at PoW Camp 354 in Kenya, he escaped with two others & scaled 17,000 ft. Mount Kenya, to relieve the tedium of camp life, before returning, breaking back in & giving themselves up to the camp commandant. Their only map was an artist's impression on the side of an Oxo tin. [HLMainPic] Richly detailed & standard contemporary account of the Italo-Ethiopian War of 1896 (Italian-Abyssinian & Italian-Dervish campaigns) & the Ethiopian victory at Adowa. The author, George Fitz-Hardinge Berkeley, an Anglo-Irishman, was a prominent cricketer in his day; served in the Worcestershire Regiment 1898-1901 (& as a musketry instructor during the First World War); was a member of the Irish Bar & a strong supporter of Irish Home Rule. Orig. red cloth, somewhat dampstained, about VG & scarce, inscribed by the author "For Uncle Harry with best wishes, and very many thanks for assistance. FRom the Author Nov. 14 1902."
