Priestley, MC, BA, late Major, RE, who accompanied Shackleton's expedition to the Antarctic in 1907-09 & 1909, & Scott's ill-fated Terra Nova Expedition, 1910-13 as geologist He was one of Campbell's party who speny seven months marooned in an ice-cave during the austral winter, eating penguin & seal. He was a founder of the Scott Polar Research Insitute & Vice-Chanceller of Birmingham University. Commissioned in the RE in 1914 he commanded the 46th (North Midland) Divisional Signal Company 1917-19 & was awarded the Military Cross for the Hindenburg Line in October 1918.
