Rare photographic supplement to the German OH, containing 36 photos. on 35 plates, all captioned in Gothic script, being fine scenes illustrative of operations in France, Flanders & the Eastern Front. Neil Wells states (in Official Histories of the Great War 1914-1918): "The Bildermappe... is a special picture folder... it was not given a 'Band' number, & the date of publication or copyright was not shown on the folder or any of the plates." Like the British, the German OH was incomplete when the Second World War broke out. The 12 volumes then published (& here offered) covered operations on Western & Eastern Fronts, the Balkans & Italy, down to June 1917 (including the British Messines offensive). The final two volumes were issued in a limited form during WW2 & are virtually unobtainable. All vols. are handsome, good quality productions with excellent maps &c., produced to a high standard. Very few volumes are offered for sale & a set such as this, as complete as one is likely to encounter, is rare. Orig. maroon cloth, gilt, VG throughout. See illustrations on our website.

The four Parts comprise Preliminary Arrangements; Working of Administrative Arrangements during Operations; Conclusions & Recommendations; Appendices. Each part addresses subjects such as Ammunition Supply; Transport; R.E. Services; Medical; Veterinary; Signal Communications; Postal Arrangements; Labour; Ordnance; Scheme for Reporting Casualties; Instructions for Clearing the Battlefield [and burying the dead]; Instructions for Salvage, &c., demonstrating the detailed care & attention to these various aspects in planning a set-piece battle, together with accounts of the actual operations & lessons & recommendations resulting from theme. Much concerned with the Canadian Corps, & containing much interesting & unusual detail on the battle of Vimy Ridge in April 1917. Printed by AP&SS Press A at Boulogne, no indication of the number printed but undoubtedly a very small number. Orig. blue cloth with printed paper label to front. Note: Part V (not present) was a separate volume of maps, plans & diagrams produced to accompany this text.

The scarce CONFIDENTIAL official account (including operations 1860-1920, with considerable detail on the little-known 1917 campaign) with valuable orders of battle &c. Individually numbered "Serial No. 301" but total no. produced is unknown to us. Orig. three-qtr. calf, green cloth, claret sp labels, gilt, the leather a little rubbed, stained & worn as always but overall VG, good copy & complete, with contemp. ink ownership inscrip. of "J.C.R. Gannon Major AMS Personal to C in C." (Note: Gannon appointed AMS [Personal] to Lord Rawlinson of Trent, 21/11/1920. He served in the Waziristan Campaign & was Mentioned in Despatches).

Official account (including precis of operations 1860-1918) with valuable orders of battle &c. This cheaper edition in printed boards was issued without all but three of the illus., panoramas & maps of the 1st Ed., however this copy retains only one of the three fldg. maps (the general map of Waziristan), hence offered as an inexpensive text, VG ex-IWM with withdrawn stamp. 1900 copies printed & still scarce.
