The most absorbing Frontier memoirs of Major R.C. Corfield, who was commissioned in the Frontier Force Rifles in 1942 was selected for service with the Frontier Corps in 1945 & spent some six years with the Tochi Scouts: "A life spent among Pathan tribesmen... speaking their language, miles from one's nearest fellow officer, patrolling a hostile area of rugged country with always the chance of a sniper's bullet... Not only was I to serve in Waziristan, but my duties eventually took me all over the Frontier Province, to Chitral in the far North, into the Kurram Agency, along the Khyber Pass, on recruiting tours through the Kattak country, and, on two occasions, as a guest, into the forbidden Tirah." Contains a most interesting historical summary of the British period on the NWF, much of great interest on the organisation & services of the Scouts, descriptions of their various posts & conditions of service, some exciting incidents with hostile tribesmen/gangs, biographical details & portraits of some of his Pathan soldiers, &c. Privately circulated & rare memoirs, spiral-bound duplicated A4 typescript, dec. card wraps., little wear, VG, inscribed "With best wishes, Dick Corfield." See illustration on our website.
