[HLMainPic] Andrew Richard Buxton was born in London in 1879, Ed. at Harrow School. Born into the Barclay's Bank dynasty, he joined the bank in 1901 & was local director of the Westminster Branch in 1914 when he enlisted in the University & Public Schools Bn. of the Royal Fusiliers. He received a Special Reserve commission in the Rifle Brigade early in 1915 and served with the 3rd Bn. on the Western Front from June 1915 onwards, inc. trench life in Flanders, Battle of the Somme etc., and was KiA at Messines on 7th June 1917. He is buried in Oostaverne Military Cemetery. Mostly comprises his detailed & interesting letters during training with the 6th (SR) Bn. at Sheerness & from the Front throughout his active service, including a brief interlude as a Staff "learner" at 73rd Brigade Headquarters from Dec. 1916-April 1917.
