Memoirs of brothers Rolls: The Hon. Charles Stewart Rolls, founder of the Rolls Royce motor car manufacturing firm & a pioneer aviator, was killed in a crash at an aviation meeting at Bournemouth in 1910. He was the first Briton to be killed in a flying accident & was thirty-two when he died. His elder brother, Major Lord Llangattock (John Maclean Rolls, 2nd Baron Llangattock), 1st Monmouthshire Battery, Royal Field Artillery, Died of Wounds on 31st October 1916 & is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. He was forty-six years old. Both brothers were Ed. at Eton, Charles went to Trinity College, Cambridge before entering the fledgling motor industry; John to Christ Church College, Oxford. He became a Barrister of the Inner Temple, was a JP and DL for Monmouthshire, Mayor of Monmouth in 1906-07 & commissioned in the 1st Monmouthshire Artillery Volunteers. He took his battery to the front in October 1916 & just three weeks later was mortally wounded by gunshot wounds in the jaw & hand at an observation post. Contains biographies of both men, family history, numerous portraits, much on the founding of Rolls Royce & early aviation meets.
