[HLMainPic] Suppression of the German colonies in West Africa. Togoland was a self-sufficient German colony but was largely undefended & swiftly despatched by the Gold Coast Regiment of the West African Frontier Force in the first campaign of the war, falling on 26/8/1914. Cameroons, in a much more substantial series of operations, was also taken care of by the (much expanded) WAFF, but did not surrender until Feb. 1916.
