India. Churachandpur. 1:25,000. 2nd Edition. July 1944. Fldg. paper map, 62x50cm. Printed by 66 Rep. Group. April 1944  #63908
[HLMainPic] An example of the excellent 2.53 inches to one mile series of maps produced in SEAC during the war in Burma, Surveyed by Survey HQ 4 Corps from air photographs taken in April 1944. The two main operational map scales employed in Burma were the one inch to the mile series & this more detailed series. Both covered all the operational areas in Burma. Both series' are scarce, but particularly this more detailed series. The map here offered includes a seven-and-a half miles stretch of the Imphal-Tiddim road from around 32 miles south of Imphal down to Thinkangphai. Adjacent to the road, two miles to the west of it, is Churchandpur: "a Japanese staging post rather like a mini-Kohima. Here the supplies coming up the road from Tiddim were delivered to the rear echelon transport of the forward formations. They were carried as far forward as possible in trucks & then switched to mules for the units in the hills." (vide, Burma: The Turning Point, [Maj.-Gen.] Ian Lyall Grant [MC], a fine account of the battle by a participant in these events.) The area was much fought over by units of 17th (Indian) Div. in May 1944. Generally VG, several square inches torn away from border of lower left corner, but not affecting the map itself. See illustration on our website.   £60
