Utilising the works available (Govt. Blue Books, Topographical Notes & half-a-dozen travellers' or missionaries' accounts) they prepared these papers in preparation for the campaign. "good coverage of several little-known operations... The style is dry & tedious, but the contents appear to be accurate." - Perkins. In the author's Preface he notes that he has utilised the regimental Digest of Services & was allowed access to "official Order Books, Letter Books, Returns, &c., filed in the Brigade Office...
