[HLMainPic] Memoir of the services of First Lieutenant John McGavock Grider, an American born in Arkansas in 1892 into a wealthy Southern family (the title "Marse John" is a phonetic representation of the family's black plantation workers' rendering of "Master John"). Grider was the subject of a celebrated work compiled by Elliott White Spings, "Diary of an Unknown Aviator."
