Contain accounts of in excess of 100 battles, sieges & other operations in the Low Countries. Very nice recent (perhaps 1980s) half calf, dec. sp. with red leather lettering label, marbled paper covd. boards. Inscribed by the author on tp: "From Major General Sir J.C. Smyth to Colonel Francis Sherlock." Note: Carmichael-Smyth commanded the Engineers at the Battle of Waterloo, for which he was awarded a CB. Dalton (Waterloo Roll Call) records that: "it was Col. Smyth's plan of the ground which enabled Wellington to place his troops so rapidly & advantageously that day." See illustrations on our website.
