Letters of Lt. P.M. Campbell between Sept. 1915-March 1916 including service in the trenches at Gallipoli during the closing stages of the campaign & an interesting account of the evacuation during which he worked on W Beach at Cape Helles as a Military Landing Officer on the staff of Gen. O'Dowda, who was in charge of embarkation arrangements at that place. "...the Ayrshire Yeomanry remained in training at home for more than a year. It was not until September 1915 that orders were received to join the MEF, & however welcome the prospect of immediate active service might seem, both officers & men had the disappointment of leaving their horses behind... As the event turned out... they were destined to take part in the closing scenes of the British occupation of Gallipoli." Orig. black cloth, gilt, VG & rare. See illustration on our website.
