Highly evocative & superbly illustrated account of a middle class girl, used more to the tennis court than work, who enlisted as a probationer nurse in 1914 when her male friends started to be killed & served as a VAD in France from Nov. 1915. Atmospheric descriptions of life on & off duty. Orig. blue cloth, VG in chipped dw (illustrated with her woodcut 'Sister's Lines' which also appears as the frontis.) Scarce, especially in dw. See illustration on our website.
