Robert "Bobby" Warnock was born at Lenzie, Scotland, in 1890, and Ed. at the Glasgow High School. He was an early and keen member of the Lenzie Troop of Boy Scouts, becoming Scoutmaster. He also served in the Lanark Rifle Volunteers Cadet Corps, the 1st Lanark Rifle Volunteers and the 5th Scottish Rifles (T.F.). In 1911 he went out to the Philippines to pursue a commercial career, returning to England in 1915 to join the Army. He was commissioned in the 7th (Service) Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers and crossed to France on 1st October 1915. participated in the Battle of Loos and became Machine Gun Officer in November. In May 1916 the 6th and 7th RSF were merged and he was awarded the Military Cross in the King's Birthday Honours in June, returning to the Somme front after a brief trip to London for investiture. He was wounded during an attack on the night of 12th August 1916 and Died of Wounds soon after, aged twenty-six. He is buried in Peake Wood Cemetery, Fricourt. Includes letters written in his youth, then from the Philippines and finally around 30pp. from the Western Front, as well as the customary letters of condolence from bother officers &c. Light khaki cloth, gilt to spine, with badges of the Scouts and Royal Scots Fusiliers to front board. VG with family presentation inscrip. See illustration on our website.
