George Herbert served in France with the US Medical Corps, including the events related in this book, although he chooses to present them through the experiences of one Farrier Clayborn Baxter, in the same (Rainbow) Div. as the author. A curious, anti-war compilation with much on medical services, clearly based largely on Herbert's own impressions & recollections. VG in sl. chipped dw with author's book label to front paste-down.
