Personal experiences 1918-19 of NCO in 341st Machine Gun Battalion, 177th Brigade, 89th Division (nicknamed The Fighting Farmers): "The Dud contains authentic dope gathered during my short while in the Army... After a bit of history of my division & battalion I shall narrate my experiences, which I purpose to give in diary form..." He was gassed at Xammes on 1st Oct. 1918 but returned to the Coy. in time for the Argonne offensive. Detailed diary & history inc. impressions of the officers & men in his Company.
