Ringgold Wilmer Lardner (1885-1933) was an American sports journalist, lyricist & short story writer of note, who was apparently admired by contemporaries such as Ernest Hemingway & F. Scott Fitzgerald. The hero of the work Jack Keefe, had first appeared in 'You Know Me Al' - a baseball player's imagined letters which some considered to be one of the top works of American comic fiction.
