[HLMainPic] The model for Kipling's well-loved character, Lionel Charles Dunsterville was commissioned in 1884 & transferred to the Indian Army in 1885: served in several Waziristan & NW Frontier expeditions, China 1900, then the Great War. Being in England in 1914 he found that "Indian Colonels weren't particularly wanted" but managed to get to France in a job connected with railway transport,, then back to India in 1915 where he commanded 1st Inf. Brigade on the NWF then 1917-19 in the Caucasus & Persia commanding "Dunsterforce." VG in chipped dw.   £35
