FIELITZ (F., Vizefeldwebel) Das Infanterie-Regiment "Graf Bartuss" (4. Westfalisches) Nr. 17 im Weltkriege 1914-1918. 1st Ed., orig. dec. wraps, [ii]pp. (title page & Foreword) followed by 3 leaves carbon ts., 90pp., 245x210mm, approx. 400 photos. Ronneburg: Richard Zieschank. nd (c.1920s)  #70028
[HLMainPic] A fine photographic record of this regiment of the Prussian Army which started the war in France, spent the middle years on the Eastern Front, then back in France/Flanders in 1918. Around 50 portraits of officers & holders of awards of the Iron Cross 1st Class, many photos. of trenches & other front line positions, billets, regions where the regiment operated, informal groups &c. The three bound-in dup. typescript leaves are headed: "Auszug aus der kriegsstammrolle des Gefreiten Peter Thiel, der. 1. Komp. J.R. 17." [Excerpt from the war roll of Private Peter Thiel...] & record this soldier's birth in 1891 & services (which included a commendation for bravery) until discharge on 23rd November 1918, followed by a schedule of the soldier's (& the regiment's) movements & locations throughout the war. This soldier's particulars were obviously not bound into every copy, but possibly every copy had the record of a soldier added: without having had the opportunity to locate or study any other copies I can't categorically say whether this is the case. Orig. printed wraps., stained & worn (especially the flimsy typescript leaves), foxing to end leaves, generally VG.   £75
