[HLMainPic] Wainwright Merrill, son of Samuel and Estelle M. Merrill, of 45, Bellevue Avenue, Cambridge, Mass., a student at Dartmouth and Harvard Colleges, was born in 1898, enlisted in November 1916 under the name of Arthur A. Stanley (because he was a minor "and knew he could not get his father's consent") and was a gunner in the 6th Canadian Siege Battery. He went to France in October 1917 and was killed on 6th November near Ypres, aged nineteen. His grave lies in Ypres Reservoir Cemetery. Contains an account of his enlistment followed by his letters written during training in England and from France and Flanders. Orig. olive cloth, gilt to spine and Royal Artillery badge to front, sp. dull o/w VG.   £45
