Rare & detailed records of the 1st DCLI from Mobilization (with list of officers proceeding overseas) to the Battle of Mons & subsequent retreat, Le Cateau, the Marne, the La Bassee front in the autumn then in trenches at Wulverghem &c. during the winter. Much interesting close detail on the battalion's doings, with several rare photos. (taken by Maj. T.A. Kendall), 3 sketches by the author & one by John Hassall, RI, but evidently unknown to Everard Wyrral when writing the regimental history for 1914-18 as not cited or utilised by him. Originally appeared in several parts but continuously paginated, provided with an Index & in contemp. red cloth binding with paper label to front. VG & a valuable regimental record.
