Plate 'Badge of the Cornwalls' invariably absent: was never placed in any copy. The author was Ernest Channing Matthews (as he appears in the Army Lists of the period), later known as Ernest Matthews Channing-Renton & was an interesting character: sometime a British vice-consul & an artist in oils, water-colour, Indian ink & charcoal, as recorded in contemp. works of reference.
