Blomfield commanded the Artists' Rifles Depot from Nov. 1914 to May 1919. Contains historical notes on the regiment & personal experiences including interesting & amusing accounts of interviewing applicants for the regiment, the process of commissioning &c. Orig. grey paper covd. boards with whilte cloth backstrip, sp. tanned sp., light ringmark to front o/w VG & inscribed by the author "Cecil A. Smith with affectionate good wishes - from the Author Charles J. Blomfield Nov. 1921." Note: Charles James Blomfield (1862-1932) was architect to Salisbury & Chester Cathedrals, to St Cross Hospital, Winchester, to St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, & to the Dean & Chapter of Southwark Cathedral. He was also surveyor to the Eyre Estate, St John's Wood.
