Personal account of the Egyptian Revolution against the British occupation of Egypt & Sudan in 1919, after the British had exiled the Egyptian Nationalist leader & his Wafd Party, which led to recognition of Egyptian Independence in 1922 (with Britain retaining influence in the Canal Zone). The author states in his Foreword that: "An exact account of what occurred in Egypt in 1919 will, I believe, help to instruct the British public, who with a few exceptions are entirely ignorant of the extent & violence of the outbreak..." This violence included attacks on British military & civil installations & personnel; around 60 Europeans were killed against 800 Egyptians killed & 1600 wounded. The work is recorded with imprint "Whitehead Morris, Alexandria" on title page, but this copy has no such detail present & is possibly a privately circulated precursor to that edition (another copy, in identical binding, has been seen). Note: Alexander Cockburn McBarnet/M'Barnet, CBE, was Ed. at Fettes & Balliol, Barrister of the Inner Temple & made his career in the Egyptian judiciary, being a judge in the Native Court of Appeal from 1913 & Legal Member Permanent Arbitration Board, Egypt, 1914. During the events of 1919 he was made a Temp. & Local Lt.-Col. in Maj.-Gen. Shea's Southern Punitive Force. Contemp. qtr. black morocco, black cloth boards, gilt to sp., little rubbed, VG & rare.
