Paul Norman Jones Christie, elder son of Major Octavius Francis and Mrs Christabel Frances Christie, was educated at Bengeo School, Eton and Sandhurst (despite a severe knee injury which prevented him participating in games whilst at school and long runs at Sandhurst). He was gazetted to the Bedfordshire Regiment in April 1917 and went to France in July where he was posted to the 1st Battalion. He was killed by a shell on 9th October 1917 and was buried near battalion headquarters, on the right hand side of the Menin Road near Gheluvelt, however he now has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. He was nineteen years old. Includes his obituary from the Eton College Chronicle, letters written from Sandhurst and France (joining his battalion on 12th July 1917 and remaining with it until his death, apart from three weeks at the 1st Army School of Sniping, under Major Hesketh Prichard, followed by letters of condolence from his Commanding Officer, company commander and several other officers and men.
