FORREST (George W.) Ed. Selections from the Letters, Despatches & Other State Papers Preserved in The Military Department of the Government of India 1857-58. Volume I: [Delhi]. 1st Ed., [iii]+v+493+clviii+cipp., 3 of 5 maps. Calcutta: Military Dept. Press. 1893  #66302
[HLMainPic] Exceedingly rare source material on the outbreak of the Mutiny, followed by in-depth detail on the events at Meerut & Delhi (throughout the siege & relief), all described utilising primary sources: the minutes of Courts of Inquiry, General Orders, correspondence & dispatches, plus detailed appendices & a very valuable annotated index. (The whole work, covering all the events of the Mutiny, was completed in four volumes: all are rare.) Later blue cloth 'Boots' binding, gilt tile to sp., sound thus but lacking the two fldg. end-pocket maps. While a poor example, it cannot be emphasised enough how scarce this volume is in the original edition. See illustration on our website.   £75
