Flying training at Foggia then attached to the Royal Italian Flying Corps as a bomber pilot. In the Foreword Major LaGuardia - who commanded the squadron in which the author was a pilot, & who later became mayor of New York - states: "Some of the first American youths to volunteer their services during the late World War were sent to Italy to learn to fly. It was my privilege to serve with these boys... They were as fine a group of boys as ever gathered in one detachment. The thrilling experiences they encountered in night & day bombardments over the Alps, the Piave & the Adriatic Sea made history which is now revealed to the American reading public for the first time..."
