Luard was in charge of nursing at several CCSs, 1915-18, inc. battles of Loos, Arras, 3rd Ypres (she describes the arrival of mortally wounded Noel Chavasse at the CCS) & the 1918 battles. Highly acclaimed by Falls who wrote: "This is one of the finest diaries of its kind... To discover the methods, the experiences, & the spirit of the nurses in a CCS it is much better to go to her than to the so-called artists. A noble, spirited, & affecting book."
