[HLMainPic] James Wood was Ed. at Rugby & "Having no special aptitude for study" entered a business career in London. joined the HAC 1914, then commissioned in the Sherwood Foresters & joined the 2nd Bn. in Flanders,. KiA after about six weeks at the front. Includes letters from France with considerable allusion to God's work (he was a keen Bible scholar) but also some details of his experiences & conditions at the front: he joined his battalion on 24th June 1915 "in a torrent of rain, loaded with pack etc. The roads were awful, & so was the odour in certain spots... German flares were going up often... I hope I shall soon get used to the banging, cracking & swishing of different things..." Orig. green cloth, gilt, front little marked o/w VG.
