Jackie Smyth's early life in the Ludiana Sikhs, with interesting account of the campaign in France & Flanders 1914-15 (when he won the VC); Waziristan 1919-20, Dunkirk (Bde. commander), but especially command of 17th Div. in Burma & the disaster at Sittang, the timing of the blowing of the bridge at which he continued to attempt to justify. VG in dw, inscribed by the author "To Myrtle with love from Jackie" plus loosely inserted signed letter & programme for Jackie Smyth's memorial service at St Martins-in-the-Fields in June 1983.
