TRENCH MAP: Monbrehain. 1:20,000. Ed. 1A. Parts of [Sheets] 57cSE, 57bSW, 62xNE, 62bNW. Fldg. linen-backed map of Front before Ronssoy, Hargicourt, &c., from Villers-Guislain south to Bellicourt (region of the attack by the 27th & 30th American Divisions, when they advanced across the covered section of the St. Quentin Canal to capture the main Hindenburg Line at Le Catelet, Belicourt &c. on 29th September 1918, with the 5th & 3rd Australian Divisions in support. Detailed ink & pencil markings showing the attack of the three battalions of the 106th US Infantry Regiment (a NY National Guard regiment) of the 27th (Rainbow) Division: this regiment conducted a preliminary operation on 27th Sept. to improve the jumping off position for the Division. During a day of hard fighting (see British OH 1918 Vol. V, p.100) it reached some of its objectives, but was driven back by counter-attacks. In the attack proper on 29th September the regiment's role was mopping-up, although it became heavily involved in that day's fighting also. Much interesting detail inc. named German trenches corrected from information received up to 19/9/1918, plus various information added in red, from captured German maps. Rather serviceworn but clean & sound, rear neatly repaired with brown paper tape, VG thus & rare survival of this American operation.. See illustrations on our website.  #68080
