A remarkably detailed & substantial memoir of growing up in Pennsylvania before WW1, when frontier days were not far behind, then WW1 service in the US 111th Infantry, 28th Division, in France (Marne, Chatteau-Thiery &c.), when he was wounded. Also describes a return visit to the battlefields in 1960, gives services of some of his post-war friends, &c. Much of interest & many excellent illustratioms.
