"...characteristically selective" in Richard Holmes's judgment, protecting the subject's reputation. Orig. green cloth, sp. somewhat faded, edges little rubbed o/w VG with several loosely inserted press cuttings relating to the 1975 auction at Sothebys of his letters to his mistress, which were surprisingly candid about military events during 1914-15.
