Lieutenant Walter Scott, who seems to have adopted the name "Dixon" in addition to his given name, was a journalist and poet, educated at Liverpool Institute and Liverpool University. He was commissioned in the Royal Field Artillery, took a draft to the Dardanelles and, after service at Suvla Bay, contracted dysentry and died on board the hospital ship H.M.T. Aquitania on 23rd October 1915 following evacuation sick from Gallipoli. He was buried at sea in the Ægean and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Largely pre-war correspondence, but contains some wartime letters commencing with anxiety about whether or how to serve; then commissioned in 3rd West Lancashire Brigade Royal Field Artillery and served at home until posted to Gallipoli in September 1915, several letters from Suvla and hospital ship conclude the book. Blue cloth, gilt, sp. dull o/w VG with resentation inscrip. & loosely inserted letter from the compiler.
