[HLMainPic] The unit had a curious history: as 12th DLI served in France 1940 inc. rearguard actions near Arras &c., about 140 men escaping from Dunkirk; then affiliated to the Black Watch & served in Iceland, then landed in Normandy shortly after D Day where they saw much heavy fighting until broken up due to heavy casualties late in August 1944 & the personnel posted to other bns.
