[HLMainPic] Scarce work containing a series of pieces written by the South Wales Argus "Local War Correspondent" (& originally published in that organ) when the writer was 'embedded' with the 3rd Monmouths - a lorry-borne battalion that landed on D+8 & fought from Normandy to the Low Countries. Conatins much detail on individual soldiers awarded gallantry medals (with portraits of several dozen of them), & many other soldiers of the battalion mentioned in the text. The Foreword explains that "To ascertain the part the lorry-borne Battalion of the Monmouthshire Regiment played in the invasion of the Continent [Doble] lived the life of the Monmouthshire men in the Battle Zone. He gained first-hand knowledge of their exploits & of their experiences. While at the battle front, he wrote a series of articles which were authentic in regard to achievements & were descriptive of the life of the soldier in modern warfare..."
