[HLMainPic] An Austrian, the author relied on hotels & loyal friends to look after him, but when internment commenced in May 1915 he had no option but to go. The arresting policeman advised: "I would pack as if you were going on a holiday..." Cohen-Portheim accordingly found himself at Knockaloe Internment Camp with "plenty of white flannels, bathing things, evening dress etc., but without a towel or anything else most needed."
