[HLMainPic] Fine memorial including extensive extracts from war letters 1914-16, training in the UK until Dec. 1915, then briefly in Egypt before the bn. landed in France in March 1916. Ed. at Rugby & Oxford, Bickersteth was commissioned 1914 in 15th (S) Bn. West Yorkshire Regt., the Leeds Pals, & KiA at Serre, 1/7/16. Printed to coincide with his parents golden wedding anniversary. Orig. dark blue cloth, gilt, VG with presentation inscrip. "To our dear Geoffrey & Jean with loving thanks to them for this their gift to us on reaching our Golden Wedding 21 June 1931. Samuel Bickersteth, Ellen C.F. Bickersteth, Mester Omers, The Precincts, Canterbury." Loosely inserted programme for the Order of Service of the Bickersteths' Golden Wedding Service, also invitation card to Mr & Mrs G.L. Bickersteth to this occasion. Note: Geoffrey Langdale Bickersteth (1884-1974) was Professor of Literature at Aberdeen University. It is evident from the presentation inscription, also a loosely inserted letter of thanks from Ellen Bickersteth that Geoffrey (brother of Morris) & his wife paid for the production of this memorial volume as Golden Wedding present.
