DESMORE (A.J.B.) With the 2nd Cape Corps thro' Central Africa. 1st Ed., 100pp., portrait of the author, 11 photos. Cape Town: Citadel Press. 1920  #60933
[HLMainPic] A rather atmospheric personal account of enlistment & service with the 2nd Cape Corps, "a fighting regiment composed of Coloured men" - of which the author was proud to belong. I believe unfairly condemned by Perkins as "A somewhat amateurish narrative" but remains the only history of the unit, & Perkins goes on to say: "It was trained in the infantry role & deployed on the western border of Portugese [sic] East Africa. It did see some action, clashing with units of von Lettow Vorbeck's force when it made its return move to the north. The Bn. seems to have been disbanded in late 1918 or early 1919. A moderately useful reference source best read in conjunction with other accounts of that campaign." Orig. blue cloth, titled in black to front & sp., minor wear, VG. Rare. See illustration on our website.   £275
