The early years (Afghan Wars &c.), WW1 (NWF, Mesopotamia & Kurdistan) & WW2 (Burma then Java) are described with much interesting detail in the first 118pp. (including the reminiscences of Col. Trim, who commanded the battalion at Sangshak & elsewhere): there follow excellent accounts of the unit's involvement in the various post-Independence operations: Jammu & Kashmir, Indo-Pak Wars, &c., together with many illustrations & appendices listing British commanding officers, 1800-1947, subedar majors, honours & awards, &c.
