Superb Australian official history. Orig. maroon cloth, gilt, little rubbed o/w VG & interesting copy with armorial bookplate of "The Honourable Algernon D. Boyle." Boyle commanded the armoured cruiser HMS Bacchante throughout the Dardanelles campaign, & was jointly (with Capt. Staveley RN) responsible for drawing up the plans for the evacuation of ANZAC which this history describes this document as "a model of clearness & succinctness..." Boyle placed a leather corner-marker adjacent to his own entry in the index: next to his name he has added references to HMS Bacchante, & on several pages where she is mentioned has added short marginal notes. Note: Admiral Sir Algernon Boyle, KCB, &c. 1871-1949, went on to command HMS Malaya at Jutland; was Chief of Staff to the Vice Adml., Dover Patrol, in 1918; 4th Sea Lord in the 1920s, &c.
