Classic other rank memoir of regular soldiering in India & Burma before the First War; a life with which most of the BEF was familiar (& which seemed eerily familiar to readers who underwent the same experiences 40 years later!). Following the success of "Old Soldiers Never Die" messrs. Faber were evidently optimistic of strong sales which failed to materialise, although this work was critically acclaimed & is every bit as absorbing & considerably more unusual. Orig. blue cloth, gilt, VG in sl. chipped dw: rare 1st Ed. in original 1st Ed. dw. Unsigned but has various intriguing neat pencil notes in HW's hand to rear ep. See illustration on our website.
