Important work by the head of the German Military Mission to Turkey & then commander of Turkish 5th Army responsible for defence of Gallipoli. Also deeply involved with the Turkish campaigns in Mesopotamia & Palestine. "Liman's record is the bald & precise statement of a soldier, yet it reveals his character very clearly. He was a high-minded, extremely able, energetic & likeable man; but he was also hot-tempered, touchy, without tact, & unable to bear criticism. These latter characteristics hindered him seriously in his extraordinarily difficult task. This is one of the most interesting pictures we have of the other side." - Falls. Orig. blue cloth, gilt, VG, nice clean copy of the original edition. See illustration on our website.
