In about 1864 it was determined that "complete returns of the equipment of the army should be made by the officers of the Topographical & Statistical Depot, & illustrated by drawings of every article authorized to be supplied to the army, the work was divided into seven parts..." This is the first part. It was published without illustrations, although it was planned to issue the latter in a supplement. Contains details of arms, saddlery, bands & instruments, ammunition, hospital equipment, armourer's forge, marks for packages & stores, &c. &c. Orig. maroon cloth, blindstamped & gilt, sp. little chipped o/w VG ex-RUSI although inner joints, probably needlessly, neatly tape repaired. Just 500 copies printed & thus a rare survival. See illustrations on our website.
