The author's great-uncle, Capt. Ralph Kite MC, was mortally wounded in 1916 with the battalion & his large archive of letters & documents was therefore available to the writer. He also utilised many other privately & publicly held diaries, photographs & other documents to produce this fine belated record of the 52nd on the Western Front throughout the war. (Note: Vol. I of the regimental history originally conceived, being that of the 43rd in Mesopotamia &c., was the only volume published at the time. This is in every way a most worthy successor.)
