A paper read to the Keswick Literary & Scientific Society on March 29th, 1880 (it must have been a long but interesting evening) containing an account of Woodford's immediate antecedents & life. He was commissioned in the Grenadier Guards in 1800 & saw active service at the Siege of Copenhagen in 1807, then in the Peninsula 1808-14 (DAQMG & ADC to Moore at Corunna, when he had his horse shot under him, & AQMG under Wellington at battles of Nive, Nivelle &c., afterward in the Waterloo campaign). Includes some extracts from his letters written during these campaigns & concludes with an autobiographical memorandum by his elder brother, Gen. Sir Alexander Woodford, & various other documents.
