The author was a Special Reserve officer of the Northamptonshire Regt., mobilised with the 1st Bn. (2nd Bde., 1st Div., I Corps), he gives a full account - based on his diary - of mobilisation, embarkation & arrival in France, Retreat from Mons, Aisne, Chemin-des-Dames & 1st Ypres when he was wounded 23/10/14. Roll of bn. officers, noting almost 100% casualties. Orig. wheat cloth VG, title & regimental badge blocked on front board. See illustration on our website.
