Nicknamed 'Harper's Duds' on the Somme after their poor performance in 1915, a play on the name of the GOC & their HD symbol, they later proved themselves a crack division. Farrell was attached to Div. HQ as an official war artist in 1918 & most of his evocative sketches depict 1918 operations, although he also includes landscapes of locations where earlier battles took place. Orig. dec. wheat cloth, little rubbed & worn o/w VG. See illustrations on our website.
