Masses of interesting material, but reiterates much already covered by Pound ("The Lost Generation") et al, largely ignoring the fact that after 1914-15 the 'game' was off & the temporary gentlemen necessarily increasingly professional. And that by 1918 around 50 percent of junior officers were men commissioned from the ranks, whose performance equalled or exceeded that of the public school subalterns of 1914-15. VG in dw.
